The new RTX 4000 series is here. With both the Nvidia RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards officially confirmed. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has now officially introduced RTX 4090 24GB, RTX 4080 16GB, and RTX 4080 12GB models. The first SKUs from the next generation of graphics series, named “Ada”. Jensen Huang called it a “quantum leap” that paves the way for creators of fully simulated worlds.
The new Nvidia cards will be built upon the new Lovelace architecture. It is featuring 76 billion transistors and TSMC’s 4nm process node to upgrade the performance. The new architecture introduces 3rd Gen RT cores and 4th Gen Tensor Cores to allow for improved ray tracing. It also provides compatibility with DLSS 3.0 as NVIDIA confirms Ada Lovelace supports DLSS 3 upscaling technology. For game streaming, NVIDIA RTX 40 GPUs have dual AV1 encoders supporting up to 8K 60 FPS recordings.
NVIDIA RTX 4090:
The new flagship features AD102-300 GPU with 16384 CUDA cores and boosts clock up to 2520 MHz. This means a single-precision performance of 82.6 TFLOPS, 2.3x more than its predecessor RTX 3090. Nvidia also claims the RTX 4090 is between 2x and 4x faster than RTX 3090 Ti, depending on the game.
The flagship GPU based on Ada architecture will be equipped with 24GB of GDDR6X memory with peak bandwidth at 1 TB/s. The Nvidia RTX 4090 unfortunately, has a greater power consumption than its predecessor at a whopping 450W. So it may require a more powerful PSU.
NVIDIA RTX 4080 series:
During the Event, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang also revealed two RTX 4080 models. They share the same model number but different memory and GPU specs. The RTX 4080 16GB features an AD103 GPU with 9728 CUDA cores. A total of 16GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 22.5 Gbps, and a TDP of 320W. The other one is RTX 4080 12GB with AD104 GPU and 7680 CUDA cores.
As the name suggests, there is 12GB GDDR6X memory on this model and TDP at 285W. Nvidia has actually managed to reduce the power consumption for the RTX 4080 compared to previous models. Which is a great achievement considering the extra power it’s providing over the previous series. The company also claims the RTX 4080 is between 2x and 4x faster than the RTX 3080 Ti.
NVIDIA RTX 4070:
Nvidia did show off the Nvidia RTX 4090 and two versions of the Nvidia RTX 4080. And it doesn’t mean the 4070 won’t come later. Though the Nvidia GTC 2022 event came & went on September 20, there was no news about the midrange GPU. The Nvidia RTX 4070 doesn’t get any mention in the official event. But it could possibly be the most important card of the entire Nvidia Lovelace launch lineup.
And given many of the rumors we’ve heard of the RTX 4070, we’re expecting a remarkably powerful graphics card. It could be even more powerful than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080. All of this is rumor and speculation at this point though. So it remains to be seen how this card stacks up against the best Nvidia GPUs on the market. But, that makes this the one graphics card that we’re most interested in seeing in the coming weeks and months.
NVIDIA RTX 4090 & 4080 Series Prices:
The new Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card has a $1599/£1679 starting price. This makes it $100 USD more expensive than the RTX 3090 at launch. Huang said, “The new heavyweight champ” starts at $1,599 USD and will be available Oct. 12.
The Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB and 12GB have starting prices of $1199/£1269 and $899/£949, respectively. That’s a huge price increase on their predecessors, with the 12GB & 10GB models costing $699 & $649 USD respectively at launch. But, the Prices in Pakistan will be calculated according to the current USD conversion rate. Plus, you will also be paying the GPU taxes which the government implemented last month.
None of the RTX 40 GPUs has NVLink and they are using PCIe Gen4 x16 interface.
