The iPhone 14 could have had the most significant changes over the past few years. The series will be available this fall. Finally, Apple is saying goodbye to the notch and utilizing more powerful hardware in the Pro-lineup. The upcoming 14 series is going to be another important milestone for Apple. Here’s what we know so far.
The rumors of iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and Pro Max are picking up. And Apple’s new iPhones could be bringing the most significant changes in a decade. The leaks that have surfaced so far have pointed to a more sleek new design. A more powerful A16 Bionic chip, and a sharper primary 48MP camera on the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.
The 14 Mini will discontinue and a more powerful 6.7-inch 14 Plus model will take its place this time. So we’ll be having some changes in the standard 14 lineup. However, we’re concerned that the new iPhone could be pretty boring compared to Pro models. As it could have a similar design or even the A15 from last year’s Bionic chip.
In the face of fierce rivalry from the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Google Pixel 6. It appears that Apple is planning to up its game for the 14 Pro model.
iPhone 14 latest rumors (Updated June 23)
- The battery update for the new 14 series comes from a screenshot shared by DuanRui & ShrimpApplePro, two Twitter leakers.
- We’ve run down the latest rumors to get an idea of the upcoming 14 series launch and release date. According to the recent rumors from iDropNews, Apple will be launching the series on September 13, 2022. And most likely release it to the market on September 23, 2022.
- The leaker iHacktu just posted and Claimed 14 Pro performance figures. With the help of the AnTuTu benchmark app as a basis, iHacktu says we can expect 35% & 45% increases in GPU & CPU test results. But he did not specify what was he comparing these results with. We assume they’re comparing the new chip to the A15 chipset in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro.
- Code in the iOS 16 beta found by 9to5Mac suggests the iPhone 14 will get an always-on display. But it will likely be only for the Pro models.
- As for price, somewhat reliable leaker LeaksApplePro has claimed 3/4 iPhone series 14 models will have a price hike. The standard 14 model is expected to stick at $799, and the new 14 Plus is tipped to cost $899. But the 14 Pro might hit $1,099, a $100 hike over the $999 iPhone 13 Pro. And the 14 Pro Max may see a similar increase, with it hitting $1,199. This relatively significant leap in launch price would certainly sting the wallet, so we hope it’s not true.
- Apple could also use a new vapor chamber thermal system. That will keep the iPhone cooler to minimize the impact of faster chips & 5G connectivity.
- Early iPhone 14 rumors suggested that all four new 14 models coming in 2022 could offer ProMotion displays. And have refresh rates up to 120Hz, but it looks like that’s not going to happen.
- Apple is likely to restrict ProMotion technology to the 14 Pro models. A move that display analyst Ross Young attributes to a lack of availability of the necessary displays. Young has clarified that he believes 120Hz refresh rates will remain a 14 Pro feature.
- Alleged renders depicting the iPhone series 14 models surfaced in March. It suggested that the standard 14 models will have no design changes compared to the iPhone 13 models.
- The 14 and 14 Pro could come in purple, according to an unverified rumor by AppleTrack. Though unconfirmed, the rumor suggests that the 14 and 14 Pro models will be available in a purple shade. With a unique finish that shifts tone based on lighting conditions.
- According to an investor report from JP Morgan Chase, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 models are also expected to come with a high-end titanium alloy chassis design. Apple has used titanium for the Apple Watch, but this would mark the first time the material has been used for an iPhone.
- An anonymous tipster informed MacRumors that the series 14 models might launch without a physical SIM slot, with Apple transitioning to an eSIM-only design. Apple is allegedly advising major U.S. carriers to prepare for the launch of eSIM-only smartphones by 2022, which suggests some 14 models may be the first to come without a SIM slot.
iPhone 14 Plus replacing iPhone 13 mini:
The iPhone mini may be a thing of the past, and Apple could change its iPhone 14 lineup for 2022. There may be a bigger 14 Plus alongside the standard 6.1-inch iPhone14. There would be two normal-sized phones and two larger screens for iPhone fourteen models.
Leaker Jon Prosser further confirmed the claim that the 14 Plus will be an alternative to a mini-phone with the 6.7-inch display but not with many professional features, resulting in a high cost. With the demand for bigger phones, a larger but cheaper iPhone might be the ideal solution for iPhone enthusiasts.
Another leaker has revealed that we’re likely to see two iPhone series 14 models, the standard and the max models. From our perspective, we believe that it appears that 14 Plus figures to be a game-changer for Apple, and the phone that is rumored to be coming out should cause Apple’s rivals to be nervous.
Eliminating an iPhone 13 mini isn’t the biggest change expected from an iPhone 14.
iPhone 14 design:
Based on Jon Prosser and his Front Page Tech video Jon Prosser’s Front Page Tech video, the iPhone 14 will look like an iPhone 12 crossed with an iPhone 4 in that it will have flat edges. The edges may contain a mute switch and the rounded button group for volume central, all of which will take you to the iPhone 4.
It is believed that the side panels that make up the iPhone 14 are thought to be made of titanium. Which would make it stronger and more durable than previous iPhones, and the back could have a glass finish. However, it appears to have a matte finish.
A few diagrams show the iPhone 14 Pro models with the camera array raised getting bigger than models like the iPhone 13 Pro. Ming-chi Kuo said that the larger module is required to accommodate a 48-megapixel camera, and it’s not likely that the standard iPhone 14 will get an array of cameras in a flush position with its rear panel.
Some rumors suggest that the iPhone 14 is set to eliminate that notch in the screen finally. As of now, it appears that it’s only going to be that the 14 Pro will be not notch-free and will instead use the combination of a circular camera cutout and an oval cutout in the middle to house the Face ID sensors. It could feature smaller bezels, which would make the display appear bigger.
The rumors gained credibility thanks to what appears to be an unreleased supply chain image that shows the display panels on the 4 iPhone 14 models. Although the 14 and 14 Plus appear to have retained the notch display, the 14 Pro and 14 Pro max appear to have removed the notch and replaced it with an oblong-shaped cutout and what appears to be the appearance of a camera or sensor.
Like Pro, MySmartPrice also obtained 3D renders of the standard iPhone 14. We are assuming we will see that the iPhone 14 Plus will also have the same design but in an iPhone with an 6.7-inch display.
The renderings do not look much different from what we have on the iPhone 13. The notch is thinner, and the cameras on its rear are set on a diagonal. It leaves us wondering what’s going to differ in iPhone 14.
Leaker Max Weinbach, who has an impressive track record, said that Both pro models show the same 0.2mm larger phone and an increased camera bump. It’s interesting to note that the schematics suggest how the 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will not be too different in size and height compared to their predecessors. These schematics also show the new hole-punch/pill-shaped cutouts.
Concerning the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the leaked leak exposed a lot of details regarding what’s expected to be Apple’s most powerful flagship phone of the next generation. It appears that Apple will be implementing a series of nips and tucks to make the bigger iPhone an even slimmer handset or, at minimum, one that can squeeze the most screen space without losing the sensor technology essential for secure and efficient Face ID.
The various design modifications are displayed in a selection of iPhone 14 mock-ups posted in an Alibaba video, which the Japanese website Macotakara uploaded. In addition to the distinct differences between iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro, It’s also evident that the larger camera module that’s on Pro models. Pro models will require new cases for the phones.
A video from iUpdate has given us an additional look at iPhone 14 fake units. Based on these non-official models, at the very least, it appears that the iPhone 14 looks like the iPhone 13, with most modifications reserved for Pro models.
To choose colors, One source claims that Midnight, Starlight, and Product RED will be available like usual. However, the blue has been turned into a light blue sky, and the possibility of a new color option in purple is being introduced. The leak has been removed, and it’s difficult to determine its reliability. However, the artist Souta’s render of the iPhone 14 Pro in purple shows how this color would appear in real life.
iPhone 14 display:
We’re anticipating a change within the iPhone 14 range, as it is reported that the regular iPhone 14 and 14 Pro will have an 6.1-inch display. IPhone 14 Plus and14 Pro Max can also have the 6.7-inch display. Which Confirms there’s no need for a 5.4-inch mini.
The leaks from Shadow_Leak report that an iPhone 14 will have a 6.08-inch display (rounded up to 6.1 inches) and the iPhone 14 Plus with have a 6.68-inch display (rounded by 6.7 inches). It’s the same size model as iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. But, the Pro models may be getting slightly bigger (to 6.12 inches and 6.69 inches, respectively) due to new bezels.
Since the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max come with 120Hz refresh rate displays and the display is 120Hz, it would be wonderful to find out which iPhone 14 models have such a display. It could be the LTP display or an improvement of that technology.
This panel technology indicates that the iPhone 14 Pro may feature the Always On display. The ability to display notifications and other content, such as the date and time on a display, without the need to turn off the phone would allow next-gen iPhones, an option that the top Android phones have been using for a while.
Although the code included in the iOS 16 beta appears to suggest a new Always on-display experience. Apple will only introduce this in the Pro models and not in the standard iPhone 14 models. The Pro models will also be having the new Pro display, featuring 120Hz refresh rates.
A supply chain report claims that the iPhone 14 Plus will be having a 120Hz refresh rate. LG will create the screens in this instance, but it’s unclear if the standard iPhone 14 will get a speedier refresh rate or remain at 60Hz.
A report by The Elec says that at the very least, an iPhone 14 model that sports a display with an LTPS means that the 60Hz display may be possible. In the past, supply chain reports have only confirmed that the regular iPhone 14 may miss out on a display that refreshes quickly.
But, there is an older rumor which claims that one of the regular iPhone 14 models will receive a 90Hz-refresh rate display. However, it’s not the fast 120Hz display we’d love to have, but it could be an impressive improvement over a 60Hz display. Another tipster confirms this report of a disappointing display.
Incredibly, a report in The Elec says that Apple might decide to leave OLED panel manufacturer BOE because of BOE’s claims of doing a sham with the size of the transistors made of a thin film. Apple could then select LG as well as Samsung as its sole suppliers.
Touch ID:
One of the biggest improvements in the iPhone 14 over its predecessors will include returning Touch ID. It will not be integrated into a power button. It is believed to be placed under the display of the iPhone 14 as it is with many fingerprint sensors that are found on most popular Android smartphones.
But the jury isn’t out on whether this will happen. Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo believes that the iPhone will not be equipped with Touch ID or Display Face ID, which would be under-display for a few more years. It would be disconcerting since, in these times of wearing masks, the option of a Face ID is very useful.
However, in iOS 15.4, Apple has made it possible it is now possible that Face ID can identify authentic users even if they wear masks. It works extremely well and suggests that Apple might have avoided the need for fingerprint-based biometrics.
iPhone 14 Cameras:
iPhone 14 cameras and the speculation is getting intriguing. A report by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Koo suggests the main camera to be 48MP in phones like the 14 Pro models. This would be an impressive leap from the 12-megapixel camera on iPhone 13.
TrendForce is a Taiwanese research company that confirms that 48MP camera speculation suggests that megapixels are a factor once again in the eyes of Apple – at least for the iPhone 14 Pro phones.
However, an ordinary Apple tipster is using the normal iPhone 14 models tipped to keep 12MP cameras but just the Pro model is expected to feature an additional 48MP camera.
If it proves to be true, A larger main sensor would be a welcome addition. However, we’re most attracted by a better zoom lens since the iPhone does not have the same capabilities as the Samsung Galaxy S21. It would be cool to see if Apple could draw inspiration from Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and opt to use a secondary camera with 10x optical zoom.
One Apple patent suggests Apple developing a periscope-style zoom camera. Which they would add in the iPhone 14 or at least in the Pro models. But Ming-Chi Kuo declares that the periscope camera will not arrive in 2023, with the iPhone 15 in 2023.
In a new update by Kuo, all models of the iPhone 14 are expected to have an upgraded front camera that is expected to have a larger aperture (f/1.9 against. f/2.2 for the iPhone), a larger lens (f/1.9 vs. f/2.2 on iPhone) 6 part lenses (up from five-part lenses) as well as autofocus that is built-in.
These features should aid in taking better photos and videos. While remaining in focus easily and with less distortion within the photo.
iPhone 14 Specs, Battery Life and Charging:
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple might offer only iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max with the latest A16 Bionic chip. The standard 14 and 14 Plus would run on the A15 Bionic — and, more recently, tipster Yogesh Brar has confirmed this unconvincing spec speculation which further widens the gap between iPhone 14 and 14 Pro and Pro Max.
Another tipper, LeaksApplePro, has also stated they believe that the iPhone 14 will be running an A15 Bionic instead of upgraded silicon. His report states: “Apple is seriously considering using the A15 in non-pro iPhones in the coming months. The Cupertino-based company is planning to name this chip the “A16.”
But it’s getting more and more complicated as new sources claim that the iPhone 14 would likely use the version of the A15 Bionic chipset, which powers the current iPhone 13 Pro models. And that the chip comes with 6GB of RAM.
Research company TrendForce backs up all of the above and claims it is certain that Apple’s newly released A16 Bionic chip will only be available for the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. This may be due to the shortage of chips. However, Apple might also be trying to differentiate further between the standard and the Pro iPhone lineups.
There are some benchmark leaks that may provide us with how much extra power the A16 can offer. So if you are curious you should read them.
Kuo adds that the four iPhone 14 models will have 6GB of RAM, significantly increasing from 4GB in models like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. But, the basic models will still have LPDDR 4X RAM similar to the present iPhone 13 range. While the Pro models will be having better and quicker LPDDR 5 RAM.
A rumor has been circulating that the series 14 can have upto massive 2TB onboard storage. Since no Samsung phone has this feature as well, and they’ve always been generous with storage. We’re not sure about the iPhone offering the biggest storage capacity on a smartphone up to now.
A separate note from analyst Jeff Pu says that the 14 and 14 Plus will start with 64GB of storage. And that the 14 Pro Max will come with a massive 256GB, this is certainly plausible. However, not the former because that’s only less than half the storage of the normal iPhone 13. Concerning storage, We’d like Apple to keep the options available in its iPhone 13 range. Which begins at 128GB, and then goes up to 1TB with Pro models
According to analyst Emma Mohr-McClune of GlobalDate Apple may also introduce an eSIM-only version for the USA-only iPhone 14 models. The move will increase the iPhone’s popularity among people who require two SIM capabilities, like international travelers and business customers.
A source on Weibo claims that the battery capacity available on the iPhone-14 family shows that all models, excluding those with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, will have a larger size. It appears that the battery in 14 Pro Max is in fact shrank slightly. But not enough to affect the overall battery longevity.
iPhone 14 5G, Satellite & Cellular Connectivity:
The possibility is that the new 14 series will feature an Apple-made 5G modem in the wake of Apple’s purchase of the modem division of Intel. This will likely allow Apple more control over the 5G’s performance and battery life. However, it may only launch in an iPhone 15 next year.
Apple is planning to equip its newly released iPhones with a new 5G chip. Which could result in lower power consumption while keeping the same performance. The Taiwanese Economic Daily News revealed that TSMC had obtained Apple’s 5G chip order for the upcoming iPhone lineup.
These new 5G chips use a 6nm chip size during production. This will allow the vendor to produce physically smaller chips, resulting in less power consumption, without sacrificing performance.
In addition, a smaller chip can also allow Apple to put a bigger battery inside. The chip may increase the battery’s overall longevity when combined with improved energy efficiency.
In the context of 5G modems, Qualcomm has announced the X70 modem at the MWC 2022. However, with an anticipated release date of late 2022, it’s likely that the iPhone 14 will have this new technology. Which will provide a major advancement over the current X65 modem, as believed by many people in the industry.
Since we are having a discussion on the connectivity topic, let’s discuss an old rumor. Which claims that the iPhone will have the capability of connecting to a satellite network. So the users are able to transmit messages via text to emergency services when mobile networks aren’t accessible.
This feature wasn’t added to the iPhone 13 models, even tho they had the necessary technology in them. Still, now sources suggest it’s possible that iPhone 14 models could include satellite connectivity through the network. As Apple is looking to enhance the emergency capabilities of its phones.
USB-C:
The idea of dropping the Lightning port in favor of USB-C has been a common report for several iPhone generations. And for some time, it seemed like this might be the case on iPhone 14. Numerous leakers had stated that the 14 Pro would come with USB-C. And it seems logical that the regular 14 would follow suit.
However, it is possible that the standard 14 won’t be switching to type-C but use the same Lightning port. As leaker LeaksApplePro claims, USB-C isn’t coming in new 14 Pro models. Rather, Apple will choose an upgrade version of Lightning that will feature a USB 3.0-like speed for data transfer.
Ming-Chi Koo is now saying that the iPhone with USB-C will come, but not until 2023, the end of 2023. In other words, iPhone 15 might get USB-C. However, if he’s right, the iPhone 14 will likely not. Bloomberg also said that 2023 will be the year of USB-C and the iPhone will be able to use USB-C. Apple is testing new devices and a new charger ahead of the iPhone 15 launch in the coming year.
Software:
If Apple stays with the design, it’s been using for a decade. The new iPhone series 14 will likely launch with the latest iOS software version in the autumn. We’re currently using iOS 15. The new models will be featuring the latest and upcoming iOS 16 paired with the Apple bionic chip.
We know what features to expect from the 14 series after Apple previews iOS 16. Alongside the ability to include widgets on your phone’s lock screen. This new version adds the capability to edit messages after sending them. Make tweaks for Maps & Wallet, a Safety Check feature, and more.
If you’d like to see the new features on the upcoming iPhone 14, download a beta of the latest version. As it will include a few of the features and options that will be available in the iPhone 14 series.
iPhone 14 Pro vs. iPhone 14 Pro Max:
Based on the speculations, it is likely that the 14 Pro & Pro Max could be best in their own category. This is a result of cameras becoming more sophisticated with longer lenses and offering zoom features for the telephoto lens. The latest iPhone 14 pro models also have the Always-on display feature as well. This will replace the notch with the Punch hole screen.
Additionally, 14 Pro models will likely have a more sharp main camera with 48MP. This is greater than the 12MP camera anticipated for the standard 14. It’s also possible that Pro models of the series 14 iPhone will get USB-C connectivity instead of the Lightning port.
The 14 Pro lineup has the new A16 silicon and the standard 14 models are running the old A15 chip. The researcher Jeff Pu believes that Apple might offer all four iPhone 14 models a 120Hz display. And that all four models could have 6GB RAM. But unfortunately, only the Pro models have the 120Hz display and the standard ones only have 90Hz.
What would we like to see on the iPhone 14?
We’ve put together a list of iPhone series 14 rumors based on the essential features of Apple’s fall phone. However, here’s a quick overview of what we’re hoping to see as it comes out. Now that we know that the iPhone SE (2022) is available. Let’s check the information about what iPhone SE tells us about the iPhone 14.
A new style:
Prosser’s renders of the new 14 series tease a rather appealing design phone. It’s not an enormous leap in Apple’s industrial aesthetic. Although Apple has some of the most beautiful phones available. But, we’d love to see if they can enhance the phone’s design. Perhaps the 14 range will include the much-hyped iPhone, the Flip folding phone.
The iPhone 14 might have a notch-free display. We hope all the rumors we’ve heard are true. We’d love to have an under-display camera so that it doesn’t affect the image and the Face ID performance.
Touch ID:
We’d believe that Apple will restore Touch ID for the 14 models. However, it’s not sure if it’s under the display. They can integrate the Touch ID sensor it into the power button on the side of the phone. Same as the one found in the iPad Air.
More advanced features:
Although, the Apple A-series chips are always powerful. But, we’d still want Apple to expand its focus on the AI aspect as well. Similar to what Google is doing with the Tensor chip in the Google Pixel 6. So we’ll be able to get a better, smarter, and more flexible Siri to keep up with Google Assistant.
with more intelligent features that effectively serve the data & services to the iPhone 14 users when they need them.
Capabilities for killer cameras:
The iPhone 13 Pro Max provides an unbeatable camera experience. Top cameras are available, but we’d like to be able to see Apple expand its camera technology and hardware further. The advantage in comparison between the Pro Max, the Google Pixel 6 & Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra isn’t huge.
With iPhone 14, we’d like Apple to provide a camera & phone experience that is in direct competition with Android competitors. Which would force them to improve the ante on photography by introducing new phones. Also, catching up in the realm of zoom will help, too.
