Apple officially launched their iPhone 14 series on 6th September, started pre-booking on 9th, and shipping from 16th September 2022. And Just within a week, PTA has announced the highest ever Payable Apple iPhone 14 PTA tax in Pakistan. Just Last month, when other countries were having discounts on the previous iPhone models. PTA has increased the tax on iPhone 13 models in Pakistan. People were already angry about that. And yet in less than a month, PTA has introduced another absurd tax on the Apple iPhone 14 series.

Payable PTA Tax on The Apple iPhone 14 models on Passport:

If you are trying to import an iPhone 14 model in Pakistan or buying from a retailer in Pakistan. Then these are the taxes you would have to pay for them in order to keep using your device with the Pakistani sims. Apart from the fixed tax price, you will have to pay an additional sales tax ad valorem of 17%. Make sure to factor this in when budgeting for your new phone!

Along with the PTA Tax on iPhones, the Pakistani government has imposed taxes and duties on all mobile phones in the country. There are fixed tax amounts levied on 5 different mobile price ranges in USD, regardless of whether the phone is old or new the tax will be applied on all the phones that are imported into the country according to their official launched prices. There are some price ranges in which apart from the mentioned fixed tax you will have to pay an additional sales tax ad valorem of 17%. The Government will be keeping the records of all the phones operated in Pakistan by using the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System’s (DIRBS).

What is the PTA tax on iPhone 14 Pro Max?

The iPhone 14 Pro Max base model starts from $1199 and the total payable tax on it will be 116,000 Rs/- for Passport holders and 140,000 Rs/- for CNIC holders.

How does PTA Tax on Passport work?

PTA Tax on Passport is levied as fixed amounts on 5 different mobile price ranges in USD, regardless of phone being old or new the tax will be applied on all the phones that are imported into the country. There are some price range in which apart from the mentioned fixed tax you will have to pay an additional sales tax ad valorem of 17%. The Tax on passport is less as compared to when you register your device through CNIC but the downside is that you would need to get your device registered within 30 days of activation on your passport. 

Why is PTA Tax on Passport imposed?

PTA Tax on Passport is imposed by the Pakistani government in order to mainly cater foreign tourist who visit Pakistan on tourist visa and don’t have a Pakistani CNIC. Also, the Pakistani people who have settled in different countries and are only visiting Pakistan for a few weeks or months to spend their holidays or attend some events . Since these people won’t be using the local sim for a long time and will be leaving the country after some time, some of them don’t feel comfortable paying the regular tax as local Pakistanis.

How can I avoid paying PTA Tax on Passport?

There is no sure way to avoid paying PTA Tax on Passport. There are few scenarios like If you are only visiting Pakistan for less than 30 days or if you have an international sim with roaming and you don’t need a local sim than you don’t need to pay PTA tax.

What are the consequences of not paying PTA Tax on Passport and CNIC?

If you do not pay any PTA Tax on your Passport or on CNIC. Then your phone will be blocked by the sim operators in Pakistan after 60 days. Unless and until you get it registered by paying the full tax.
